an isolated place from which there was no escape. There, on the rocky promontory (ten miles long and six miles wide), the aged apostle met the risen Savior face-to-face. John explains that he was “in the Spirit” on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) when the Savior appeared to him. The phrase “in the Spirit” is an explanation of an out-of-the-body “trance” (called “ecstasy” [Greek, ekstasis] in Acts 10:10; 11:5; 22:17).
